Privacy Policy

Last Updated: November 1, 2025

We at Thank You For Your Business, LLC, a New York company doing business as Roger ("Roger," "we," "us," or "our") respect your privacy and are committed to keeping secure any information we obtain from you or about you. This Privacy Policy describes our practices with respect to Personal Data that we collect from or about you when you use our website, desktop application, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

We are dedicated to creating tools that improve your productivity while protecting your privacy. We are not in the business of selling your data and do everything we can to keep your data in your control while also providing a quality service.

1. Personal Data We Collect

We collect Personal Data relating to you ("Personal Data") as follows:

Personal Data You Provide

We collect Personal Data when you use our website, purchase a license, use our app, or communicate with us, including:

  • Account Information: If you create an account or purchase a license, we may collect information associated with your account or license such as your name, email address, license key or purchase identifier, and transaction history (collectively, "Account Information").

  • User Content: Personal Data that you provide in the input to our Services ("Content"), including the audio you transcribe with Roger, is processed and stored locally on your device. The core speech-to-text pipeline and any local AI models run on your machine. We do not send what you say or transcribe to cloud AI APIs for processing. The application may store your transcription history in a local database on your device so that you can view and manage it. You control this setting in the app (for example, by disabling history or clearing it).

  • Communication Information: If you communicate with us, such as via email or social media, we may collect Personal Data like your name, contact information, and the contents of the messages you send ("Communication Information").

  • Other Information You Provide: We collect other information that you may provide to us, such as when you participate in surveys, send us logs or screenshots for support, send us examples of your transcriptions, or provide us with information to establish your identity or age (collectively, "Other Information You Provide"). If you voluntarily send us diagnostic logs that contain snippets of transcriptions, we will use those only for support and debugging or to improve our services.

Personal Data We Receive from Your Use of the Services

When you visit, use, or interact with the Services, we receive the following categories of information about your visit, use, or interactions ("Technical Information"):

  • Log Data (Website and App): We collect information that your browser or app automatically sends when you use our Services. Log data may include your Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type and settings, operating system, device type, the date and time of your request, and how you interact with our Services (for example, feature usage and error codes).

  • Usage Data (Website and App): We use analytics tools to understand how people use our website and, in anonymized form, our app. For example, we may collect information about which pages you visit on https://roger.tools, which features are used in the app, your time zone and country, app version, and general performance metrics. In the app, analytics are designed not to capture the actual content of your audio or transcriptions; we focus on high-level events (e.g., "app opened" or "model download succeeded") and cannot see or hear what you say. If you do not want to share any analytics information for high-level events in the app, you can turn off analytics in the settings page of the app.

  • Device Information: We collect information about the device you use to access the Services, such as the device model, operating system and version, and basic device identifiers. Information collected may depend on the type of device you use and its settings.

  • Location Information: We may determine the general area (for example, city or country) from which your device accesses our Services based on information like its IP address. We use this primarily for security, operational insights (for example, server load and abuse detection), and to understand where our users are located in the aggregate. We do not use precise GPS location.

  • Cookies and Similar Technologies (Website): On our website, we use cookies and similar technologies to operate and administer our Services and improve your experience. For example, we may use cookies to remember your preferences, keep you logged in, or measure how visitors use our site. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

Information We Receive from Other Sources

We receive information from trusted partners in order to operate the Services and protect against fraud, abuse, and other security threats. For example, we may receive:

  • Basic transaction or license information from our licensing and payment partners (such as Polar or Stripe) so we can verify that your app is properly licensed.

  • Security-related information from infrastructure providers to help us detect and mitigate malicious traffic.

Audio, Transcription, and Model Download Data

Roger processes speech-to-text locally on your device. To enable this:

  • We download and update local AI models (such as speech recognition models) from third-party hosting providers. These providers may receive standard HTTP request information (IP address, user agent, file paths) as described in their privacy policies.

  • We use hosting infrastructure to deliver app updates and website content. These services may log IP addresses and basic request details to operate their networks.

We do not send your recorded audio or transcriptions to any third parties. If you voluntarily send us transcription samples for debugging or product improvement, we use them only for those specific purposes with your explicit consent.

2. How We Use Personal Data

We may use Personal Data for the following purposes:

  • To provide, analyze, and maintain our Services: For example, to operate the Roger desktop app; download and manage local AI models; check license status; deliver app updates; and keep our website and infrastructure running.

  • To improve and develop our Services and conduct research: For example, to develop new features, understand which features are used, measure performance, and improve reliability. Where possible, we do this with anonymized or aggregated data and without including the content of your audio or transcriptions.

  • To communicate with you: For example, to send you information about your license, respond to support requests, notify you about app updates, or send you product and policy announcements.

  • To prevent fraud, illegal activity, or misuse of our Services: For example, to detect and prevent abuse, protect the security of the app update pipeline, and protect our licensing system.

  • To comply with legal obligations and protect rights: For example, to comply with tax, accounting, or other legal requirements, and to protect the rights, privacy, safety, or property of you, Roger, or third parties.

We may also aggregate or de-identify Personal Data so that it no longer identifies you and use this information for the purposes described above, such as to analyze how our Services are being used, to improve and add features to them. We will maintain and use de-identified information in de-identified form and not attempt to re-identify the information, unless required by law.

3. Disclosure of Personal Data

We may disclose your Personal Data in the following circumstances:

Vendors and Service Providers

To assist us in meeting business operations needs and to perform certain services and functions, we may disclose Personal Data to vendors and service providers, including:

  • Analytics Providers: We use analytics providers on our website and, in anonymized form, inside the application. In the app, we design analytics so they do not capture the content of your audio or transcriptions; instead, they record high-level feature usage and technical events. If you do not want any high-level feature usage captured in the app, you can turn analytics off in the settings page.

  • Infrastructure and Hosting Providers: Hosting providers are used to host our website and distribute the app or on-device AI models. When your app downloads or updates a model, our model hosting providers receive typical web request information (such as your IP address and user agent) as described in their own privacy policy. We also use content delivery network (CDN), DDoS protection, and security layers for our website and, where applicable, for distributing updates. These providers may log your IP address and request metadata as part of normal operations.

  • Licensing and Payment Providers: We use Polar.sh (or similar providers) to help us manage licensing and payments. These providers may receive information such as your email address, license key, or purchase details so that we can verify your license and provide access to the app.

  • Other Service Providers: Email providers, error-monitoring tools, and other vendors that help us send communications, process support requests, or maintain the Services.

Pursuant to our instructions, these parties will access, process, or store Personal Data only in the course of performing their duties for us and in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy.

Business Transfers

If we are involved in a strategic transaction, reorganization, bankruptcy, receivership, or transition of service to another provider (collectively, a "Transaction"), your Personal Data may be disclosed during the diligence process with counterparties and others assisting with the Transaction and transferred to a successor or affiliate as part of that Transaction along with other assets.

Government Authorities or Other Third Parties

We may share your Personal Data, including information about your interaction with our Services, with government authorities, industry peers, or other third parties, in compliance with the law if:

(i) required to do so to comply with a legal obligation or lawful request;

(ii) we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to comply with the law;

(iii) we determine, in our sole discretion, that there is a violation of our terms, policies, or the law;

(iv) it is necessary to detect or prevent fraud or other illegal activity;

(v) it is necessary to protect the safety, security, and integrity of our products, employees, users, or the public; or

(vi) it is necessary to protect against legal liability.

Affiliates

We may disclose Personal Data to our affiliates, meaning an entity that controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with Roger. Our affiliates may use this Personal Data in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy.

4. Retention

We will retain your Personal Data only for as long as we need in order to provide our Services to you, or for other legitimate business purposes such as resolving disputes, security and debugging, or complying with our legal obligations. How long we retain Personal Data will depend on a number of factors, such as:

  • Our purpose for processing the data (such as whether we need to retain the data to provide our Services);

  • The amount, nature, and sensitivity of the information;

  • The potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure; and

  • Any legal requirements that we are subject to.

Because Roger is designed as a local-first app, most of your transcription content is stored on your device and under your control. You can delete your history or uninstall the app to remove local data. For any Personal Data we store on our own systems (for example, account and licensing data, support communications, or billing records), we retain it only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy and then securely delete or anonymize it.

5. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have certain statutory rights in relation to your Personal Data. For example, you may have the right to:

  • Access your Personal Data and information relating to how it is processed;
  • Delete your Personal Data from our records;
  • Update or correct your Personal Data;
  • Transfer your Personal Data to a third party (right to data portability);
  • Restrict how we process your Personal Data;
  • Withdraw your consent—where we rely on consent as the legal basis for processing—at any time;
  • Object to how we process your Personal Data; and
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

You can exercise some of these rights directly in the app (for example, by disabling analytics or clearing your history) or through your operating system's tools (for example, deleting app data). If you are unable to exercise your rights through the app or your device, please submit your request to [email protected].

Roger may process your Personal Data for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy on servers located in various jurisdictions (for example, where our hosting or analytics providers operate), including processing and storing Personal Data in our facilities and servers in the United States. While data protection law varies by country, we apply the protections described in this policy to your Personal Data regardless of where it is processed and only transfer that data pursuant to legally valid transfer mechanisms.

6. Children

Our Services are not directed to, or intended for, children under 18. We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under 18. If you have reason to believe that a child under 18 has provided Personal Data to Roger through the Services, please email us at [email protected]. We will investigate any notification and, if appropriate, delete the Personal Data from our systems.

7. Security

We implement commercially reasonable technical, administrative, and organizational measures designed to protect Personal Data from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. This includes measures to protect our website, licensing systems, and any cloud-hosted components we use. However, no Internet or email transmission is ever fully secure or error free. Therefore, you should take special care in deciding what information you provide to us via email or other online channels.

On your own device, we encourage you to use operating system-level security features (such as disk encryption and strong passwords) to protect your local Roger data, since we do not control the security of your personal computer.

8. Additional U.S. State Disclosures

Some U.S. state privacy laws require specific disclosures. The following table provides additional information about the categories of Personal Data we collect and how we use and disclose that information. We also do not process sensitive Personal Data for the purposes of inferring characteristics about a consumer.
